Gary Deane - Engineer

From his start as a rock & roll drummer in Buffalo, NY, Gary has been deeply involved in the music scene. Gary first DJd in a roller rink in 1973! Gary has played clubs in Buffalo, Ft. Lauderdale, LA, and eventually settled in Baltimore where he was the headlining DJ when Hammerjacks re-opened at its new location in 2001. Gary's first studio experience was a direct result of Rick James spending time in his club. Gary was eventually invited back to an after party and ended up participating in the studio work there. Learning from Rick and his house engineer Tom Flye (Tower Of Power, Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead, etc) was simply a stroke of fortune. For months, Gary watched as they put together the "Punk Funk" sound of Rick James, The Stone City Band, Mary Jane Girls, etc. All roads came together for Gary when the opportunity came to open Code Red Recording Studio in 2002. Even greater fortune came when he and Spen had a working lunch in January of 2004. The result was the forming of Code Red Recordings as well as the Gospel House oriented Spiritually Sound Records. Between March 2004 and March 2005, the two labels have been responsible for over 10 releases. In addition, as part of The MuthaFunkaz production team, another 5 remixes have been released on other labels. Future plans are manifold, but Gary has just created an ownership group and opened a new bar on Maryland Ave in the same block as the record pool, studio, and label offices. The bar, called iBar, is an Internet Cafe', pub, bar, and restaurant.
